Have you ever heard the Italian proverb, "Il riso fa buon sangue" (laughter is the best medicine)? Every day, 5 days a week, you'll get enough stories in "Only In Italy" that will push you to overdose!
Here's one week's worth of "Only In Italy" stories:
A drunk Russian seaman has sparked a movie-style chase through the canals of Venice after stealing a water bus of line 51. (As if the Venetians don't have enough problems trying to keep the city from sinking in the lagoon, they had to deal with their own personal "Hunt for Red October" with Sean "Sobolev" Connery sending gondolas crashing.)
A man in Sicily asked a teen friend, 16, to shoot him in the groin in the hope of making his ex-girlfriend feel sorry for him. (A bit of advice to men all over the world who seem to be obsessed with Italian women like this poor sap: Ever see a nature film where they show a coyote eat off its own leg to escape a trap?...Start chewing.)
Pet owners in a central Italian town must pamper their dogs, cats and birds and even show mercy to supper-time lobsters or face fines as high as 500 Euros. (This is just the beginning. Soon Italian dogs will be upset that they can't become bus drivers! "Hey, I can drive a bus just as good as anyone else!")
Rome: An Italian woman who had her breasts enlarged with the biggest silicone implants available is being hunted by police after she skipped out on the 7,500 Euro ($9,500) plastic surgery bill. (Can you imagine all the sexual harassment going on in Rome by the police at this very moment? Every woman with a big chest and similar looks to this silicone thug could be a possible suspect!)
Silvio Berlusconi's doctor said yesterday the Italian Prime Minister is "almost immortal'' with a genetic make-up "exceptionally'' disposed to longevity. (Hmmm...He must be "almost immortal" because we once heard he bit the head off an Italian rat to save a whole family's spaghetti from the plague.)
All of those stories above (excluding the comments) come from real Italian and world newspapers -- not junky tabloids. And we have a fresh load of that many stories every day! We don't have to make up the stories because there are that many stories about real Italian people doing outrageous things in Italy every week. Really!
